Fuel Solutions

Marine Fuel Grades

Fuel solutions aligned with vessel requirements and applicable specifications, covering residual and distillate grades.

Fuel Grades in Detail

Application, characteristics, the basis each grade is supplied against, the quality parameters that may apply and the documentation available for the delivery.

HFO

Fuel Oil

Application
Residual marine fuel used by vessels equipped and approved for heavy/residual fuel operation.
Characteristics
High-viscosity residual fuel requiring appropriate onboard fuel-handling, heating and purification systems.
Specification
Supplied against the agreed fuel specification and applicable ISO 8217 requirements.
Quality Parameters
Relevant parameters may include viscosity, density, sulphur, flash point, water, sediment, stability, compatibility, ash, vanadium, sodium, aluminium + silicon and other applicable parameters.
Documentation
Applicable BDN, COQ, SDS and laboratory analysis documentation.

VLSFO

Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil

Application
Primarily used as marine fuel for main and auxiliary engines designed for residual fuel operation.
Characteristics
Residual marine fuel with reduced sulphur content compared with traditional high-sulphur fuel oils.
Specification
Supplied against the agreed fuel specification and applicable ISO 8217 requirements.
Quality Parameters
Relevant parameters may include viscosity, density, sulphur, flash point, water, sediment, stability, compatibility, catalytic fines and other applicable fuel-quality characteristics.
Documentation
Applicable BDN, COQ, SDS and laboratory analysis documentation.

MGO

Marine Gas Oil

Application
Used in marine engines, auxiliary engines, generators and applications requiring a distillate marine fuel.
Characteristics
Distillate marine fuel generally offering lower viscosity than residual marine fuels.
Specification
Supplied against the agreed product specification and applicable ISO 8217 requirements.
Quality Parameters
Relevant parameters may include sulphur, density, viscosity, flash point, cetane-related characteristics, water and other applicable fuel-quality parameters.
Documentation
Applicable BDN, COQ, SDS and laboratory documentation.

MDO

Marine Diesel Oil

Application
Used for marine engines and auxiliary equipment depending on engine and fuel-system requirements.
Characteristics
Marine distillate/blended fuel characteristics depending on the supplied grade.
Specification
Supplied against the agreed specification and applicable ISO 8217 requirements.
Quality Parameters
Relevant parameters may include sulphur, density, viscosity, flash point, water and other applicable quality parameters.
Documentation
Applicable BDN, COQ, SDS and laboratory analysis documentation.

DMA

Distillate Marine Fuels

Application
A distillate marine fuel category used for marine engines and equipment requiring a suitable marine distillate fuel.
Characteristics
A marine distillate fuel with properties appropriate to the agreed grade and specification.
Specification
Supplied against the agreed specification and applicable ISO 8217 requirements.
Quality Parameters
Relevant parameters may include density, viscosity, sulphur, flash point, water and other applicable quality parameters.
Documentation
Applicable BDN, COQ, SDS and laboratory analysis documentation.

No viscosity, density or sulphur figures are published on this page. Actual values depend on the grade supplied and are confirmed against the agreed specification and the quality documentation issued for the delivery. All grades are supplied subject to agreed specification, subject to product availability, and against applicable ISO 8217 and applicable regulatory requirements.
